Beef and Broccoli Lo Mein

Main Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil Perfect for crisp-frying.
  • 1 head broccoli, cut into florets Provides nutrition and color.
  • 8 ounces lo mein noodles Base of the dish.
  • 1/2 cup beef broth Enriches the sauce.
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch Thickens the sauce.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Thinly slice 1 pound of beef sirloin against the grain.
  • In a medium bowl, mix together soy sauce, oyster sauce, brown sugar, minced garlic, grated ginger, and red pepper flakes.
  • Add the sliced beef to the marinade, coating well, and let it marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
  • Bring a large pot of water to a boil and cook lo mein noodles per package instructions. Drain and set aside.

Cooking

  • Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  • Add the marinated beef along with the marinade to the skillet, cooking until browned and cooked through.
  • Add broccoli florets to the skillet and stir-fry until slightly tender.
  • Mix beef broth with cornstarch in a small bowl until smooth, then pour into the skillet.
  • Cook until the sauce thickens, coating the beef and broccoli.
  • Add cooked lo mein noodles to the skillet, tossing to combine everything well.
  • Serve hot, garnished with additional red pepper flakes if desired.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to three days. Reheat gently on the stove. For a vegetarian option, replace beef with tofu and use vegetable broth.
