Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  • Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry mix and cut it into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, egg, blood orange zest, and blood orange juice until well combined.
  • Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir gently with a fork or spatula until combined.
  • Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and pat or roll it into a circle approximately 1-inch thick.
  • Using a sharp knife or bench scraper, cut the circle into 8 equal wedges.
  • Transfer the wedges to the prepared baking sheet, placing them about 2 inches apart.

Baking

  • Bake for 15-18 minutes until the edges are golden brown.
  • Allow the scones to cool slightly on the baking sheet.

Glazing

  • In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, blood orange juice, and zest until smooth.
  • Drizzle the glaze over the warm scones.
