Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour providing the tender base of each cookie
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda helping your cookies rise to a perfectly chewy texture
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt balancing the sweetness with a hint of savory
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon infusing warmth and nostalgia into each bite
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground nutmeg adding a fragrant depth to the flavor profile

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened to create creamy richness
  • 1 cup brown sugar packed to bring a deep, caramel-like sweetness
  • 1 large egg binding all the ingredients harmoniously
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract offering a warm, comforting essence
  • 1 tablespoon milk ensuring a moist dough

Add-ins

  • 1 cup caramel chips adding delightful pockets of gooey goodness
  • 1 cup diced apples peeled and cored for a fruity freshness

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone mats.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well combined.
  • In a large bowl, combine softened butter and brown sugar using an electric mixer until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).
  • Add the egg and vanilla extract, beating until fully incorporated (about 1 minute).
  • Pour in the milk and mix until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture while mixing on low speed until just combined.
  • Fold in the caramel chips and diced apples using a spatula to ensure even distribution.

Baking

  • Drop tablespoon-sized portions of the cookie dough onto prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  • Gently flatten each mound with the back of a spoon.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes or until edges are golden brown and centers are set.

Cooling

  • Remove cookies from the oven and let them cool on baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Make sure your butter is softened, not melted. Don’t overmix the dough after adding dry ingredients to keep cookies tender.
