Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Heat olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  • Add thinly sliced onions and stir to coat them evenly.
  • Sprinkle salt and sugar over the onions.
  • Cook onions on medium heat, stirring occasionally, for about 25 to 30 minutes until golden brown.
  • Remove from heat and let onions cool for a few minutes.

Mixing

  • In a mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, sour cream, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper.
  • Mix until smooth and well combined.
  • Add cooled caramelized onions to the mixture and stir until evenly distributed.

Serving

  • Transfer the dip to a serving bowl and garnish with chopped chives or parsley if desired.
  • Serve immediately with chips, crackers, or fresh vegetables, or refrigerate for an hour to let the flavors meld.

Notes

Slice onions uniformly for even cooking. Use medium heat to avoid burning and stir frequently. Allow caramelized onions to cool before mixing to prevent curdling.
