Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and spray a 9x13 inch baking dish with non-stick cooking spray.
  • In a mixing bowl, prepare the white cake mix according to the package instructions, adding the egg whites, water, and vegetable oil.
  • Pour the cake batter into the prepared baking dish and bake for approximately 28 to 32 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool for about 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Using the end of a wooden spoon or a straw, poke holes all over the cake about 1 inch apart.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the cherry Jell-O powder and 1 cup of boiling water until the gelatin dissolves. Slowly whisk in 1/2 cup of cold water.
  • Pour the gelatin mixture evenly over the cake, ensuring it seeps into the holes.
  • Cover the cake with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours.

Frosting and Serving

  • In a large bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and powdered sugar together until smooth and creamy.
  • Gradually add the heavy cream, beating until the frosting is light and fluffy.
  • Spread the cream cheese frosting evenly over the cooled cake.
  • Spoon the cherry pie filling over the frosting and spread it out to create an appealing topping.
  • Slice the cake, serve it up, and enjoy!

Notes

For the best flavor, allow the cake to chill in the refrigerator for long enough for the Jell-O to set. Serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for added indulgence.
