Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your vegetable oil in a deep fryer to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, combine flour, 1/4 cup sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together milk, egg, and vanilla extract.
  • Gradually stir the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until just combined.
  • Transfer the dough to a floured surface and roll it out to about 1/2 inch thickness.
  • Cut the dough into strips approximately 1 inch wide and 4 inches long.

Cooking

  • Carefully drop a few strips at a time into the hot oil and fry for about 2-3 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown.
  • Remove the donut sticks from the oil and drain them on a paper towel-lined plate.
  • While still warm, roll the donut sticks in the remaining 1/2 cup of sugar to coat.
