Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Add the ground beef, onion, and green pepper to the skillet. Sauté until the beef is browned and the vegetables are soft, breaking up the meat with a wooden spoon.
  • Remove the beef mixture from the skillet and set it aside.
  • In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
  • Add the sliced mushrooms and sauté until browned and softened, about 5 minutes.
  • Sprinkle the flour over the mushrooms and stir to combine, creating a roux that will thicken your mix.
  • Gradually pour in the beef broth, stirring constantly to avoid lumps.
  • Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, salt, and black pepper, allowing the flavors to meld.
  • Return the beef mixture to the skillet and simmer for 5-7 minutes or until thickened.
  • Slice the hoagie rolls in half lengthwise and place them on a baking sheet.
  • Divide the beef mixture evenly among the hoagie rolls.
  • Top each hoagie with a slice of provolone cheese.
  • Broil in the oven until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

Use fresh ingredients for the best flavor. Broiling just before serving ensures the cheese is beautifully melted.
