For the filling

  • 1 pound plain sausage, cooked and crumbled Opt for halal-certified sausage for a comforting and satisfying dish.
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened Provides a rich base for the filling.
  • 10 ounces Rotel diced tomatoes with green chilies, drained very well Brings a zesty kick to the filling.
  • 2 tablespoons parsley, finely chopped Optional, adds freshness.
  • 1-2 tablespoons cilantro, finely chopped Optional, enhances the flavor.

For the pastry

  • 2 tubes crescent rolls Serve as the perfect vessel for the filling.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the cooked sausage crumbles, softened cream cheese, drained Rotel, and fresh herbs if using. Mix until evenly combined.
  • Unroll the crescent rolls and cut each triangle in half lengthwise to create two long triangles.
  • Place the sausage mixture onto the base of each crescent roll triangle.
  • Roll up tightly, tucking in the sides as you go.
  • Place the rolled crescents on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake for about 15 minutes, until golden brown.

Notes

Ensure cream cheese is softened for easy mixing. Drain Rotel well to prevent watery filling. Check for doneness a couple of minutes before the timer ends.
