For the Biscuit Topping

  • 11.36 oz box Red Lobster Cheddar Bay Biscuit Mix Provides biscuit base
  • 1 cup milk Can use water also
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese Enhances biscuit flavor
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter Adds richness to biscuits

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat, then add diced onion, green bell pepper, and minced garlic.
  • Sauté until the beef is cooked and the vegetables are tender, then drain any excess grease.
  • Season the mixture with salt, pepper, and garlic blend, and stir in tomato paste, cooking for a minute.
  • Add tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, and ketchup. Allow to simmer for a few minutes.
  • In a separate bowl, combine the biscuit mix with milk (or water) and 1/2 cup of shredded cheddar cheese until just mixed.

Assembly and Baking

  • Spread the seasoned meat mixture into a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
  • Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of cheddar cheese over the meat layer.
  • Spread the biscuit batter evenly over the cheese layer.
  • Bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until the biscuit topping is golden brown.
  • Mix melted butter with the seasoning packet and brush it over the biscuit topping before serving.

Notes

Use lean ground beef to reduce grease and feel free to substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter option. Pre-chop vegetables to save time.
