  • 1/2 cup diced onions Sweet and slightly tangy, caramelizes beautifully.
  • 4 slices pepper jack cheese Creamy with a little heat, perfect for melting.
  • 4 pieces hamburger buns Soft and slightly toasted, ideal for sandwiching.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat a skillet or grill over medium-high heat.
  • In a bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix well, but do not overwork the meat.
  • Shape the seasoned beef into 4 equal-sized burger patties, about one inch thick.

Cooking

  • Place the burger patties on the preheated skillet or grill. Cook for about 3-4 minutes per side, or until desired doneness.
  • During the last few minutes of cooking, top each burger patty with a slice of pepper jack cheese.
  • In a separate skillet, sauté the diced jalapeños and onions until tender and slightly caramelized.
  • Once burgers are cooked, let them rest for a few minutes to allow juices to redistribute.
  • Toast the hamburger buns on the skillet or grill for a minute or until lightly charred.

Assembly

  • Place a burger patty on the bottom half of each bun. Top with sautéed jalapeños and onions.
  • Finish by placing the top half of the bun on top. Serve hot.

Notes

Common mistakes include over-mixing the meat and not allowing burgers to rest after cooking. Try using lean meats or vegetarian options for healthier alternatives.
